D2nt Connection Interupted
Disaster in Delft
On May 13, a disastrous fire destroyed the Faculty of Architecture TUDelft, the university where I spent the last three years. Fortunately the power was empty for the feast of Pentecost, and then there were no injuries. Have been destroyed along with the building materials of all kinds, including original models of the thirties of De Stijl, historical maps and apparently also material from Barcelona for an exhibition. The images are impressive, seeing a familiar place to collapse on itself as the twin towers is shocking.
All that remains of the research and decades of work are the computer data, only legacy comforting. From one point of view, this event makes me think of one aspect of the IT revolution in architecture we are discussing in the seminar: the immateriality of the digital format and the ability to move at the speed of light with fiber optics now make it immune to disasters such as this fire that would once have meant a loss to know unbridgeable. It seems that the only brave people who tried to save something they were computer technicians, who have a fast raid rescued the central servers, allowing the recovery of all data. The result is a second interesting aspect: The ability to back to work, but without a physical place ... we can say that at this time Bouwkunde is a virtual faculty, which moves in the network VPN TUDelft.

The exclusive use of monochromatic and clay roof tiles, wood, aluminum, asbestos, and the user creates in the viewer a deep emotion and a backdrop, despite the repetitiveness of the settlement pattern. Clearly, the contemporaneity
leads the architect to work as an artist that prevails among whose ambitions to shape the material, icons and images to produce a strong narrative impact, then the materials are part of a design research and essential elements of language. The value of
tettonicita and texture of the building as well as its durability, are completely replaced by the new rule figurative image that characterizes urban scenes, landscapes changing and unstable.
